| Thelma's music |
|
We had finished editing "Thelma" two months before and I was still looking for the music for "Thelma". I was utterly convinced that what I was looking for existed, but I didn't know where and how I could find it. I listened to hundreds of disks, all kinds of music. And I didn't find anything. It was thus impossible to ask an author to compose original music. And one morning, in a cafeteria in the basement of my building, a barman was listening to a piece of music that I had never heard before, a music that struck me as soon as I heard it. I rushed to go out and buy the disk. I was very surprised when I realized that almost half of the seventeen songs on The Black Light album corresponded perfectly to the fugitive rhythm of the film, and enhanced it much more than I had imagined. The problem of Thelma's music was solved in an hour, and in such a wonderful way. The only problem left was to acquire the rights...
It was an incredible encounter, disconcerting. I sometimes wonder what Mr. Burns and Mr. Convertino will think when they see the film.
